Electricity

St Mary's partnered with Global Solace, Inc. in 2014 to build a 3 KW solar PV system serving as a mini-grid supplying electricity to the school, rectory, and health clinic.  Two HUP batteries were included to extend electricity after the sun goes down.

Prior to this project, St Joseph's relied on a generator for their electricity but could not afford the diesel fuel for its operation.

During Hurricane Matthew the solar panels were blown off the roof and destroyed.  The second story of the school was destroyed along with the electrical feed which ran through the second floor.  Global Solace, Inc.  replaced the solar panels and electrical feed to the school on a February 2017 visit to Carcasse.

The importance of establishing electricity is only matched by the maintenance of this infrastructure.
